What has changed in the Indian River Lagoon?

Currents Through Time brings together historical records, scientific data, and restoration documentation to show what the evidence actually tells us aboutIndian River Lagoon — past and present.

Explore the timeline, see water quality measurements, follow restoration efforts, and trace every piece of information back to its original source.

Indian River Lagoon

The Indian River Lagoon is one of North America's most diverse estuaries. Despite its name, it is not a river — it is a shallow estuary made up of three connected lagoons: Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River, and the Indian River.

How Currents Through Time Works

  • Brings together scattered evidence from many sources into one place you can explore.
  • Preserves the original source of every piece of data — you can always trace information back to where it came from.
  • Shows what can legitimately be compared and flags where methods or coverage differ.
  • Clearly distinguishes what a source directly reported from what CTT calculated or compared.
  • Openly identifies where information is missing rather than filling gaps with assumptions.

CTT does not assume correlation means causation, fill missing data with assumptions, or turn preliminary patterns into scientific findings.

Every Statement Has a Status

CTT shows whether information:

  • Came directly from a source
  • Was calculated or compared by CTT
  • Remains uncertain or incomplete
  • Requires additional review
