Ghost Trap Recovery
Find and recover lost crab traps using sonar, AI, and ROVs.
The Problem
Thousands of derelict crab traps are lost each season in Florida waters. These 'ghost traps' keep fishing for years — trapping and killing crabs, fish, and protected species — while snagging boats and degrading habitat. Locating them on the murky lagoon bottom is slow and dangerous work done by hand.
Our Approach
Combine side-scan sonar surveys, AI image detection to classify trap-shaped targets, and ROV-assisted retrieval. Build a live map of suspected ghost traps so recovery teams can plan efficient routes and document removals.
